progress independence

keeping citizens informed

about progress independence...

mission

progress independence is a citizen’s supported Missouri 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporation whose purpose is to encourage informed citizenship in the city of Independence through public education sustained and advanced by dedicated community, business and political leaders.

philosophy

The founding members of progress independence share the belief that individuals engaged in the governance and culture of their community have the power to impact civic, social and political conditions.  Through close scrutiny of critical issues, supported by credible research, citizens can gain a comprehensive understanding of matters that affect their neighborhood and the city in which they live, leading to a stronger sense of community and increased effectiveness in achieving their desired results.

purpose

The purpose of progress independence is to provide a reliable, non-partisan, resource for citizens allowing them access to information on current events, issues and activities relevant to the community.  The organization utilizes a variety of delivery methods in executing a public education effort designed to increase awareness of local topics, offer fair and concise explanations of issues and present consolidated information offering a range of views and opinions.   progress independence represents no political party or organization nor endorses any political candidates.

resources

progress independence will employ a variety of public resources including, but not limited to, city government, economic development and business organizations, media outlets, the boards of education, labor unions, neighborhood associations and other public and private agencies to provide accurate reporting on key civic, social and political topics.  By consolidating a wealth of established resources, progress independence seeks to create a unique and distinct identity and avoid duplication of existing services.

projects

progress independence is soliciting funding for two initial program projects as well as business expenses.  The organization plans to develop, publish and distribute “A Citizen’s Guide to Independence” providing basic information on city services and offering explanations of current issues.  This web site offers a state-of-the-art forum for news delivery and special features.

The organization will also conduct a series of public forums inviting citizens to interact with experts on topical issues.  Format for these events will be panel discussions providing supporting evidence representing a variety of opinions and views.

Corporate and individual donations are being sought to underwrite the cost of these and other upcoming public forums.  Forums are always free and open to the public.
